 37 University of Botswana Alumni awarded Scholarships to Promote Access to High Education.


The University of Botswana Foundation in partnership with private sector and other stakeholders joined hands once again on their annual efforts to raise funds to ensure many Batswana have access to higher learning by awarding Scholarships to 37 UB Alumni on October 18, 2018 at UB Stadium VIP Lounge.

The scholarships were awarded for the academic year 2018/2019 to various UB Graduates across different faculties within the University and in ensuring that the foundation and University realize its intended mission and objectives. Various private sector and stakeholders reached deep in to pockets to assist generously to the foundation in mobilizing resources to ensure UB stand firmly on its feet financially to promote access to high education and in realizing its objectives.
Amongst private sector and stakeholders who contributed immensely to the  foundation include American Northern Trust,  Investec Asset Management, Stanbic Bank, Ministry of Tertiary, Dynamic Insurance Brokers, Letshego Holdings, Motor Centre, IDM, BOCRA, AON, Debswana, Hollard Life Botswana Banc ABC and Laurelton Diamond. Other dignitaries who blessed the ceremony include University of Botswana Chancellor, Northern Trust Scholarships and Deputy Chairman of the UB Foundation Board of Trustees Ms Linah Mohohlo, Vice Chancellor Professor David Norris, Bank of Botswana Governor, Mr Moses Pelaelo, UB Foundation Scholarships Chairman and Board of Trustees, Mr Abdul Dada and UB Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs Dr Oathokwa Nkomazana.
Speaking at the official opening of the Event University of Vice Chancellor Professor David Norris said the Foundation was officially Launched on March 24, 2000 as nonprofit Trust intended to engage the private sector and other stakeholders in partnership with UB to enhance and maintain excellence and quality of University education in Botswana and carry the mandate in the best interest of UB.
In addition to ensure that many Batswana have access to higher learning, professor David Norris said the foundation was tasked to improve facilities for teaching and learning, promote research and graduate development as well as development of personal skills to assist graduate to be competitive in the world of work.
He further stated that the foundation has achieved a lot in its 18 years of its existence especially the establishment of the Graduate Scholarship Endowment Fund which was set up in 2004 with an investment over 1 million to ensure that as many Batswana as possible have access to high education. He also said it has made a number of contributions towards meeting the strategic objective of increasing the number of full time graduates students at the university.
Meanwhile, University of Botswana Acting Deputy Academic Affairs Dr Wathoka Ngkomezana highly appreciated the contribution of private sectors and stakeholders in helping the University realize its objectives.
